Ferdinand Steiner, solo clarinettist with the Mozarteum Orchestra
Salzburg, presented his new CD. Along with such musically intelligent
partners as his brother Andreas (percussion) and the bass player Ivaylo
Iordanov, he recorded Peter Wesenauer's witty, well-conceived
arrangement of C.P.E. Bach's "Solfeggietto". In addtition, two pianists are
part of the program: Fausto Quintaba in the neoclassically-inspired
sonatina composed in three classical movements by Joseph Horowitz -
(Austria, 1926) and Michael Weingartmann who performs in the Verdi,
Francaix and Debussy pieces.
In his recordings Ferdinand Steiner does not hesitate to present the great
classical clarinet repertoire, such as the 3 Solo Pieces by Strawinsky or
the First Rhapsody by Debussy. It is clear that he is at home in both the
style of Jean Francaix (1912-1997) as well as in the lyrical and
melodramatic virtuosity of the two Verdi paraphrases (the first being on
"Traviata" by the flutist and composer from Bari, Donato Lovreglio (1841-
1907) and the second on "Rigoletteo" by the composer and clarinettist
Luigi Bassi (1833-1871), who also composed a famous reminiscence on
"Luisa Miller" and a divertimento on "Rigoletto").
A very appealing CD - musically diverse and sparkling, with much verve
and - very good musicians.
Having come to appreciate his musical and interpretive abilities, we look
forward to a new CD from the soloist, perhaps with a less mixed, more
specialized program.

El clarinetista Ferdinand Steiner, solista de la Orquesta Mozarteum Salzburg, presentó su nuevo cd. Reuniendo a su alrededor a músicos de primera como su hermano Andreas (percusiones) y el contrabajista Ivaylo Iordanov se grabó un ingenioso y precioso arreglo del “Solfeggietto” de C.Ph. Bach en un arreglo Peter WesenAuer. A esta grabación participan también dos pianistas, Fausto Quintabà (en la Sonatina de Joseph Horovitz - nacido en Austria el año de 1926 – compuesta en tres movimientos clásicos, inspirados en un neoromanticismo puro) y Michael Weingartmann (en las piezas de Verdi, Françaix y Debussy).
Ferdinand Steiner no escatimó en grabar el gran repertorio “clásico” de clarinete (como por ejemplo las tres piezas de Strawinsky para Clarinete solo o la Primera Rapsodia de Debussy). Demuestra su gran soltura tanto en el estilo de Jean Françaix (1912-1997) como en el virtuosismo lírico y dramático de las dos parafrases de Verdi (una de la “Traviata” del flautista y compositor Donato Lovreglio (1841-1907) de Bari, Italia y la otra de “Rigoletto” del compositor y clarinetista Luigi Bassi (1833-1871) que además escribió una famosa reminiscencia de “Luisa Miller” y un divertimento de “Rigoletto”.

Un cd muy prometedor – musicalmente variado y matizado de mil colores con mucha chispa y dinamismo y con excelentes intérpretes.
Esperamos con mucha ilusión el nuevo proyecto del cd de los solistas, quizás menos entreverado, y por lo tanto, más selectivo ya que hemos aprendido a apreciar sus excelentes capacidades musicales y de interpretación.

モーツァルテウム管弦楽団首席クラリネット奏者 フェルディナンド・シュタイナーが新ＣＤを発表し
た。ペーター・エーゼンアウアーの素晴らしい編曲による、C.Ph.E.バッハの“ソルフェッジェット”を、シュ
タイナーの兄弟 アンドレアス（打楽器）、イヴァイロ・イオルダノフ（コントラバス）という素晴らしいメンバ
ーと共に録音している。
他にも1926 年オーストリア生まれの作曲家、ヨーゼフ・ホロヴィッツの新ロマン派からインスピレーシ
ョンを得ているという、“ソナタ”を演奏した。ピアノはファウスト・クインタバー、そしてヴェルディ・フラン
セ・ドビュッシーの各曲で共演している、ミヒャエル・ワインガルトマンという2 人が登場している。
フェルディナンド・シュタイナーはクラリネットレパートリーの古典といわれる、ドビュッシーのラプソディ
ーやストラヴィンスキーの3 つの小品などの録音を避けているわけではなく、フランセのスタイル、また
ヴェルディーの椿姫の主題による変奏曲（バリ島出身で、フルート奏者・作曲家のドナート・ロフレグリ
オ（1841-1907）による編曲）、そしてリゴレットの主題による変奏曲（作曲家・クラリネット奏者でルイ
ザ・ミラーの思い出やリゴレットのディヴェルティメントを作曲した、ルイギ・バッシ（1833-1871））など、
今回は本人が最も気に入っている曲を収録している。
音楽的に素晴らしい共演者と共に、多様な方向性や輝き、そして気迫あふれ活気ある素晴らしい
ＣＤになっている。
おそらく編集を少なくし、その分集中して録音しているのではないだろうか。
音楽的で表現豊かな才能のソリスト達に、このＣＤを通して出会うことができて、非常に光栄である。

Er versammelte intelligente Partner um sich, seinen Bruder Andreas (Schlagzeug), den Baßisten Ivaylo Iordanov, um das spritzige und schön gelungene Arrangement von "Solfeggietto" von C.Ph.E. Bach, Arrangeur Peter WesenAuer, aufzunehmen. Außerdem wirken noch die zwei Pianisten, Fausto Quintabá (für die Sonatina von Joseph Horovitz - 1926 in Österreich geboren - in 3 klassischen Sätzen komponiert, von echter Neoromantik inspiriert), und Michael Weingartmann (für Verdi, Francaix und Debussy) mit.
Ferdinand Steiner scheut sich nicht davor, das große, "klassische" Klarinettenrepertoire (wie die 3 Solo Stücke von Stravinsky, oder die erste Rhapsodie von Debussy) aufzunehmen. Er zeigt, dass er sich wohl fühlt, sowohl im Stil des Jean Francaix (1912 - 1997), als auch im lyrischen und melodramatischen Virtuosismus der zwei Verdi Paraphrasen (eine über "Traviata", des aus Bari stammenden Flötisten und Komponisten, Donato Lovreglio (1841 - 1907), und die andere über "Rigoletto" vom Komponisten und Klarinettisten Luigi Bassi (1833 -1871), welcher auch noch eine berühmte Reminiszenz über "Luisa Miller" und ein Divertimento von "Rigoletto" schrieb).

Eine sehr ansprechende CD - musikalisch verschiedenartig und schillernd, mit viel Verve und Schwung, und - sehr guten mitwirkenden Musikern.
Wir freuen uns auf ein neues CD Projekt des Solisten, vielleicht weniger gemischt und dafür gezielter, da wir seine guten musikalischen und interpretatorischen Fähigkeiten schätzen gelernt haben.
